road trip
this was suicide.
i stared at the rear view mirror. maybe i was hoping this was all a dream. but it was like watching a car crash. you just can’t look away. and i couldn’t look away as yet another person was devoured by a horde of the undead.
enough.
i turned the key on the ignition. the sputtering sound my car makes was gone—thank goodness for small favors. but steady hum of engine seems to have attracted a few of the undead.
“what are you waiting for? go!”
my right foot found the gas pedal. the car shot out of our garage and flew, top speed, off to the main road. there weren’t a lot of cars. again, thank goodness for small favors. unlike places like the manila proper where people tried a massive exodus, many people from quezon city decided to lock themselves up inside their houses.
a lot of them were eaten inside their houses.
i let the car run fast; my foot steadily pressing on the gas pedal. it’s not like i was going to kill anyone out there. if they were people, they’d be dead from zombies anyway. if they were zombies—well, you’re welcome to thank me.
the main road was quiet. eerie-quiet, but i was getting used to it.
i have wondered though how bad the situation is in the provinces. i’ve contacted a professor dolores salvosa who will hand over her research on the effects of a zombie bite. but to get to her, i would have to traverse the length of the edsa highway, get on the south luzon expressway. and from there, travel to laguna.
i reached magallanes before i had to leave the car behind. the highway was jammed with cars of all shapes and sizes. it seemed as if a lot of people thought the provinces would be safer than the city.
moans reached my ears, but none was too near where i was standing. i was safe, for the mean time.
i wondered how i was going to get to laguna. it would take me a couple of days, if i hoof it. but how long will i last outside, with just one gun for protection, and no water or food to go with me.
and no place to stay.
the moans have reached me. there’s only one thing left to do: fight.
